Although the ISO 9000 Quality Standards have been welcomed by all industries in general, they are quite generic in nature. The Automotive Industry has realized that its requirements are much more stringent than the ISO 9000 standards. In 1988 Chrysler, ford and General Motor Corporation developed QS 9000 standard, which was accepted by ISO technical committee (TC 176) as TS 16949 automotive industry.
